Qustodio parental control review
Although the Qustodio parental control software is not as functional and easy-to-use as mSpy, it still represents a rather good alternative, mainly thanks to its excellent app-management functions and detailed text and call logs. Besides, it can easily be used for website and application blocking. In addition, Qustodio can help you protect your child from sexual predators and cyber bullying due to a range of different monitoring features provided for both, PC and mobile phones. Therefore, if you are concerned that your kid spends too much time online or communicates with suspicious people, this tracking software can be a good choice.
This quick-to-install parental control software offers a standard set of monitoring tools, as well as several unique features that distinguish it from most other trackers, in particular, a panic button, time controls, and a free version that is offered, unfortunately, with a limited set of capabilities.
- SMS and call logs
Qustodio gives parents the ability to read the child’s text messages, view their call history and how much time they spend on calls, as well as an opportunity to block unwanted numbers.
- Web monitoring and content control
This tracking app monitors the kid’s browsing history and allows parents to block every page of harmful websites. Besides, its filters can prevent children from accessing pornography and other adult content.
- Social networking websites and instant messengers
The software can monitor your child’s activity on such social networking websites and instant messengers as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and Instagram. However, please note that to get access to the social networking data is a multi-step process that in most cases requires your kid’s account username and password.
- Panic button
Qustodio adds a special Panic Button to the target device that allows kids to send instant location alerts to their parents in case of emergency.
- Location monitoring
This parental control app is able to track the child’s whereabouts in real time and show parents the exact location on a map, no matter what time of day or night.
- Applications and games control
This tracking software allows parents to block applications that are inappropriate for underage children or to set time limits for their use.
- Time controls
Qustodio lets parents control the amount of time their kids spend online by locking their devices access when the time limit is reached.
It is worth noting that while providing some of the most useful parental control features, Qustodio lacks several important tools, including geo-fencing. Moreover, its filters are not as powerful as claimed, and the process of monitoring your child’s instant messengers and social networking activity is not as easy as you expect it to be.
Despite some disadvantages, Qustodio still can offer several important benefits:
- Free software version yet with a very limited set of features;
- Web-based dashboard for tracking child’s activity;
- Multiple profiles that give the ability to monitor several kids at once;
- Extended reports that provide parents with their child’s 30-day device usage history.
The Qustodio parental control software is compatible with the following devices:
- Android OS 2.2 or higher;
- iOS 7 or later;
- Kindle OS 4.0.3 or higher;
- Mac: El Capitan (10.11), Yosemite (10.10), Mavericks (10.9), Mountain Lion (10.8), Lion (10.7), and OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8);
- Windows: Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP (with Service Pack 3).
In addition to the free version, Qustodio offers the following advanced software packages:
- Premium 5 (protects up to 5 devices) – $54.95 per year;
- Premium 10 (protects up to 10 devices) – $102.95 per year;
- Premium 15 (protects up to 15 devices) – $155.95 per year.
As it has been already written above, Qustodio does provide its users with some unique features (e.g. panic button and time controls), as well as offers a free software version. However, it is not powerful enough, when it comes to content filtering and monitoring social networking websites. Another important thing to consider is that this app meets only minimum help and support requirements. Therefore, we can recommend it only to those who have at least some knowledge of tracking software and don’t require monitoring such popular applications as Facebook and Twitter.
